How to Apply a Hood Stripe Decal

By West Coast Classic Cougar

Applying decals is something that is technically possible for the average person, but often not attempted for fear of "messing it up."

In this video, we watch an experienced professional install a tricky hood stripe on a 1969 Mercury Cougar 428 CJ. He shows some of his methods, and emphasizes that even for him, it can be a process of trial-and-error to get it right.

Note: Even though this demonstration is being done on a classic Cougar, the same principles apply to most other applications. Just make sure the area where the decals will be applied is clean.

Installing vinyl hood stripes or other large decals is not that hard, but it's been my experience that having a good water/dishsoap solution handy, as well as a new squeegee and plenty of paper towels, is a must.

Patience can also come in handy, as will a heat gun or even an old hairdryer. A word of caution: Make sure you don't have the heat gun turned all they way up. If you do, you may have to start all over again, after buying a second set of decals. Trust me on that.

This is a good video worth watching before you try this at home.
