Downtown Disney Car Masters Weekend 6/2/2012

By Luis Hernandez, Jr.

After a few days of rainy weather, the roads were dry and the skies were clear for the day one of the Downtown Disney Car Masters Weekend.

We arrived at around 9:30 a.m. and, although the event was scheduled to start at 10, this being Disney World, the place was pretty busy and 150 vehicles were already in place.

Here are just a few of the photos I shot today. I will upload more during the next few days to our Pinterest board.

Car Show PT Cruisers

By Luis Hernandez, Jr.

Here are three of the PT Cruisers we spotted at the Route 46 Memorial Day Car Show in Sanford. Lots of details and add-ons, custom paint and more on these cars.

If you want more information about PT Cruisers, a good place to start would be something like the PT Cruiser Forum. And, of course, you can get tons of facts and details about these cars on Wikipedia.

U.S. Senate Designates July 13th Collector Car Appreciation Day

From Motor Authority

If you collect or restore cars as a hobby, you already know that the government isn’t always your friend. Each passing year seems to bring new regulations and restrictions, despite the fact that the car hobby pumps a significant amount of money into the economy, on a local, state and national level.

Not everyone in Washington, D.C. wants you to throw down your wrenches and scrap your 1965 Shelby Cobra, though, since the U.S. Senate has proclaimed Friday, July 13th as “Collector Car Appreciation Day.”

Route 46 Memorial Day Car Show - Sanford, FL 5/28/2012

By Luis Hernandez, Jr.

Another great collection of cars was on display at Route 46 Entertainment District, in Sanford, Florida, for the Route 46 Memorial Day Car Show.

We arrived by 10:30 a.m. and spent about an hour and a half taking photos and visiting with people. By noon, we decided to have some lunch at the Smokehouse at Route 46. As we ate our sandwiches, the skies opened up and it poured!

We could see car owners scrambling to roll up windows, get their signs and other stuff on display in the cars or—in the case of convertibles—put those tops up as fast as possible. This being Florida weather in Late May, the downpour and wind made it hard for one guy in particular as he tried to cover his beautiful Model A convertible with a tarp.

Even the band that was playing some great tunes had to make a retreat as the roof over the stage did not protect them from the driving rain.

The monsoon eventually stopped and we drove back home, as did many of the show cars, which probably was a good idea since the rain and wind lasted for most of the rest of the day.

Lets hope we have nice weather conditions for the Downtown Disney Car Show this coming weekend. In the meantime, here are some photos from the Route 46 Memorial Day Car Show.

More photos from the Route 46 Memorial Day Car Show are available on our Pinterest board.

Show Car: 1967 Ford Fairlane XL

By Luis Hernandez, Jr.

This gorgeous and immaculate 1967 Ford Fairlane XL Convertible, was on display at the Hooters & Hot Rods  car show in Sanford last Sunday.

The owner, who purchased the car new back in '67, told me his wife picked the Vintage Burgundy color, which looks great on the car.

The total cost for a 1967 Fairlane XL Convertible, with the 390 cubic-inch/410 horsepower V8, was $2,950. That's the equivalent of $20,321.88 today, according to the U.S. Dept. of Labor. Just for grins, I searched for a new Ford I could purchase today for 20 grand. The result was a 2012 Ford Fusion Sedan powered by a 2.5L 175hp 4-banger.

And people wonder why I like older cars.
